The IP Multicast course provides students with a foundational knowledge of how Multicast works, and how it serves as an underlying technology of new-world technologies. This curriculum covers the theory of IP Multicast, including Multicast protocols, Layer 2 Multicast and configuration of IP Multicast on Cisco IOS routers, and hands-on exercises that provide students with the skills needed to configure and implement Multicast on networks.

  • To provide the student with the basic understanding of how IP Multicast works, explaining the advantages and disadvantages
  • Explain the Multicast service models which includes the various Multicasts addressing
  • Identify and describe different the various multicasts Distribution trees
  • Explanation of the Multicast forwarding in comparison to unicast forwarding
  • Basic explanation of Multicast routing protocols, PIM-DM and PIM-SM
  • Explanation of Multicast MAC Layer addresses
  • Explanation of Layer 2 IP multicasting
